Politics. . . what's that?

I have ALWAYS been interested in the world around me. Enough to travel to different countries to see this world. Another thing that I ALWAYS have not been interested in is in politics. I have never showed any interest in them. My parents rarely spoke about political issues at home around the dinner table. In high school I knew who the star players in the Golden State Warriors were but I couldn't tell you the names of any political figures of the time. Not even the vice president's name. Can you believe that? I'm a sinner!!!!!!!

Soon I will be 30 and I still have yet to become interested in politics. I guess this post is to publicly announce my new goal to become politically aware. I will also try to give my children a base to work with. It's no fun not knowing what people are talking about. Being here in Turkey during the election has been interesting. People would talk to me about the candidates but mainly about Obama. "America needs a change. Plus we hate Bush. Bla bla bla bla bla." In my mind I'm thinking "What do they know? They don't know what it's like to govern a ethnically diverse country with over 300 million people. Just stop bashing our president." In some ways I wish I knew enough to talk politics with these people, but at the end of a political conversation (argument) does it really matter what I know or say? Not really. Rarely do people alter their opinions because a political debate with someone.

Everyone here loves Obama. LOVES. Well, lovED. When he was elected he was loved. But when Obama declared the Armenian genocide a genocide he went from loved to hated. Even though I was not partial to either one of the presidential candidates, I still can't help being frustrated by all the talk around here.

So here I go, day one of trying to become politically aware.

I'm just like you. So unpolitically aware it's sad. Unfortunately I don't have the desire to become aware (even more sad!) So I'll just read your posts and call that my political education. :)

McCain is a democrat and Obama is a socialist, We voted for Chuck Baldwin because he is the coolest (and least known) of all the Baldwin brothers, I guess that is as good a reason as any I've heard :)
