Merry Chris... ooops, I mean Happy Holidays!

Ads proclaiming, "Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness' sake," will appear on Washington buses starting next week and running through December.
The American Humanist Association unveiled the provocative $40,000 holiday ad campaign Tuesday.

"Our reason for doing it during the holidays is there are an awful lot of agnostics, atheists and other types of nontheists who feel a little alone during the holidays because of its association with traditional religion."

This little piece of news has been on my mind lately. Lame_news. It's quite irritating. America has become this place where you have to be sooooo careful what you say so that you don't offend anybody. Tiptoe tiptoe tiptoe. . .if you know what I mean. I'm a devout Christian. I believe in Jesus. I believe that Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth. So all the other religions should let us say "Merry Christmas!"as much as we want. Would I be offended if someone came up to me and said " Iyi Bayramlar" or "Happy Hanukkah!" No. I wouldn't. In fact, I like it when people tell me "Iyi Bayramlar!" here in Turkey. I know they mean well and I know they are rejoicing and actually thinking about God. About something other than themselves. I don't expect everyone to believe the same as me. But I really get irritated that the agnostics and athiests should be catered to during the holidays. Like they're really sitting home thinking "Oh, woe is me. Everyone believes in Christ except for me and I feel so left out." Whatever! Why don't they just organize their own holiday celebrating their lack of belief in anything higher than themselves? Then we wouldn't have to feel bad that they don't have thier own holiday.

I don't mean to sound so bitter. I probably shouldn't get so angry over it but the world just doesn't make sense. If we didn't have religious books like the Bible and the Koran, how would we really know what is good or not? If we counted on Hollywood to tell us what was good, our world would be quite untidy.

So I'm excited for Christmas. They've placed Christmas decorations on display at IKEA already. Pretty soon the store windows on the streets will be decorated too. I know, they're Muslim, but hey, Christmas can be fun for everyone, right?

amen sister. I think the same way you think. I actually say a bunch of things during the christmas season. Why not. It is a time not to be thinking of ourselves but of others. I have already pondered on that alot this year and think that everyone would be better off feeling the TRUE MEANING of christmas. Or whatever holiday they celebrate. And if those agnostics and atheists want to make their own holiday too so be it. They can still give to others weither they believe in god or not. Sorry to ramble. I love and miss you and your beautiful voice. That was always my favorite thing about my cuz. You were always singing. This weekend marks a sad day in our family but I will never forget your sweet voice singing daddys hands on the guitar. I love you girl and want you to know I miss you and think of you often.

You've seen actual, real-live, red and green, sparkly-twinkly stuff??? I've seen NOTHING. I figured until I put up my own tree and decorations the holiday season wouldn't begin. Sounds like I need a trip to IKEA. And this time not for those yummy, buttery oatmeal cookie things with the dark chocolate.
